Polls Once More to Be Closed

James Allen, News Editor

For a third year in a row, polling places are to be closed on November 2nd due to an increased security threat from Hariq Jihad. President Meyers announced the closures at a press conference held on the White House lawn late yesterday afternoon. He expressed his displeasure with having to bow to the pressures placed on him by the terrorist organization but admitted that there was little else that could be done. The safety of the general populace is his “absolute priority above all else.” The announcement was met with approval across the board and seen as just one more piece of evidence that the president is still a man of the people and for the people. It will be no hardship to retain the services of Meyers for another year until Election Day 2079.

Jackson barely even noticed the article as he checked his morning email. He was too busy bounding up the stairs, energized after his morning workout and ready to get started with his day. A few minutes later, a sense of unease came over him.

“Hey, hun,” he shouted to Courtney. “I keep feeling like there’s somewhere I’m supposed to go today, but I can’t remember where it is. Did you ask me to go anywhere for you today?”

He was in the middle of shaving. He’d always been clean shaven, and now it was regulation anyway. Similar to when he was a Marine: either he was clean shaven or he would reap the punishment of his superiors. The most he was allowed to have was a moustache, but most people didn’t bother with those anymore; they’d fallen out of fashion.

“I don’t think so, honey,” came Courtney’s voice from the walk-in closet where she was choosing her outfit for the day. “But you should ask the girls. Maybe they asked you to do something for them?”

Jackson splashed water on his face and wiped off the remainder of his shaving cream before he walked back into the bedroom. He opened the door a few inches and stuck his head out to yell to the girls, mindful of the fact that he was only in his underwear.

“MacKenzie, Maya, did either of you ask me to do something for you this morning? I keep thinking I’ve forgotten something important!”

He was aware of how odd the question sounded, but he really had a deep-seated feeling of something forgotten, something very important.

“No, Daddy,” chorused the girls from their respective rooms.

“Alright then. Thanks,” he answered. “If you guys hurry up, I can take you to school,” he said, as he closed the door.

“I’m missing something for sure,” he said to Courtney who was starting to get dressed. “What day is it today?”

She thought for a second before replying, “November second, I think.” Then she went back to battling with a pair of tights that she was trying to get on without lying on the bed with her legs in the air.
